What I Will Not Miss About Florida

I will not miss seeing Alligators on the side of the road!  We saw this one while driving to the main post office here in Orlando.  I spotted it and we turned around, parked and got out to take pics.  It never moved.  It's mouth is open because that's how they cool off.  These were taken in September, I believe.

They can move very quickly!  I grew up on a lake and there were a lot of gators.  If you live in Florida, you shouldn't allow your pups to wade in any body of water.

How do you feel about gators?

i find them fascinating but am VERY grateful they are not here - well, except for a few that were released as pets into lakes.

as long as we know they are there and remember it, i am ok with them.... but i don't go in ponds or lakes or freshwater rivers.... out at the Myakaa Head of the River, they lose dogs all the time. if there is no fence they gators get the dogs. and they can climb a fence with no trouble at all. we saw one do it at Jungle Gardens, the man showed us what they can do.

They are huge and I wouldn't go near them. But they are interesting creatures. Have a great weekend

I am glad that alligators are not local to Illinois!

I don't hate them, but I don't want to be around them, either!

You ARE going to miss your little squirrels. Are you going to pack them up and take them with you? LOL! And your flowers, are you going to take cuttings with you? (Especially the red ones that someone sent you)

I think they are very neat - at a distance!

Alligators are a given in South Texas also. And they grow to a mighty size. I'd much rather they leave me alone!! This morning I just read in the news online that there is a bobcat loose in Aransas Pass...we go there often. Hopefully I won't encounter that any time soon either. :-)

How do I feel about alligators? Gator tail is very tasty, that's how I feel, lol.

well since I don't see them on a regular basis it's pretty easy to be fascinated by them.

You said you will not miss... Did you move ?? Maybe I missed something when I was away from the computer.

That mouth sure is scary.

They fascinate me and scare me - to death.

I think I would be terrified to live around them, always looking out before I go anywhere and I'm sure I would be reluctant to walk Koda for fear of running into one of them. Great pictures of him though!

I think they are fascinating but then I have never lived anywhere where they roamed free. Fortunately we don't have them this far north. What I really like is all your green grass and trees with leaves. It is so brown and dark and gloomy here right now.

Yipes... I wouldn't miss that either.. I did live in Florida for awhile --but never did live where we saw alligators close-by.. I'm sure they could make a meal out of someone's pet... YIPES...

It's cold up here... Been the coldest January I can remember.

Hugs,
Betsy

John's parents lived in FL and it was always scary to see the gators for me!

There are way too many of those creatures in lakes near me. I don't know how that happened, but there are signs everywhere- beware of alligators!

I find them quite fascinating creatures! I have only seen one in the wild once and that was many years ago on a Florida trip.

hi, I really did not think you actually could see alligators. I have seen C.S.I Miami and I thought it was a exaggerated ;).

I liked Florida, but I think is scary. I don't like reptiles or any animals REALLY LOL.

I have always had a fascination for reptiles, and gators have been a part of that. We were in the Everglades and I did feel that people were getting way too close to them for that one great photo, even encouraging kids to stand near them. I don't understand that. They look like they couldn't move very fast but I read on one of the markers years ago that they can jump out of the water as fast as a porpoise and can run up to 20 mph. You can't help but get close to them as you have to walk by them on the trail. To me that's a little too close for comfort.

I love Nature and wildlife but glad we have none where I live. I would want an extra long telephoto lens before I stopped to take a picture, and then I would be looking all around, including behind me. Nope I wouldn't miss em either my friend. :)

I am scared to death of gators and would not want to live near their habitat. We have bears and that is enough for me when it comes to dangerous critters. BUT, the trick is to NEVER set your garbage out until garbage day morning, don't leave garage door open, and always be aware of your surroundings if out for a walk.
