Merlin the Mole that is actually a Vole lol

On Saturday we saw the neighbor's cat playing with some little critter in our front yard.  Hubby ran outside and scooped up the critter.  Turned out to be a young mole.  He seemed to enjoy being held.  We snapped a few photos then son released him in our backyard.  We have a lot of moles around.  My dad believes God gaves us moles to keep the ground aerated.
Kyle named him Merlin. :)  I thought it was a fitting name seeing that he disappeared into the ground in a flash. :)

Is anyone watching the superbowl tonight?  We pre-ordered pizza and wings yesterday from our favorite place..Johnny's.

Apparently moles get blamed for damage they don't cause.  For some mole facts click this link: Facts about moles
My friend Sandra, aka MadSnapper, has just informed me that we had a Vole not a Mole.  We should have noticed the difference because we've seen moles before, but I thought this one was just young.  We will have to keep an eye out for him. :)

Thank you, Sandra, aka...MadSnapper.

Is Merlin cute or what?!  He seemed to enjoy being held.

He is adorable and so is Kyle holding him. Precious little mole. Glad you saved him daddy used to have to trap them and kill them because they ate his garden they weren't very again they were doing and our food but if you don't mind I'm eating your grass roots and digging holes that sure is cute.

How is adorable, and you saved his life!! I think whenever there are holes in the ground, people blame moles. They get a bad rap. Yes, we are watching the game! Phil watches the game, and I watch the commercials and halftime! So there is something for everyone.

I am very happy you rescued this sweet little mole. He is adorable. Great photos! Hubby is watching the game and I check in to see who is in the lead. I am rooting for the Patriots as my Mother-in-law was from New England. Hubby is rooting for the Falcons.

Merlin is cute! Must say I have never seen a mole in real life before, probably won't, unless at a zoo :)

We did watch the Super Bowl. Didn't have wings for it but earlier at church for a class we were taking :)

Surprised by the outcome of the game but enjoyed our snacking and time together :)

I imagine Merlin is quite happy to have been rescued from the neighbors cat. I've only ever seen one in our yard. I found it crawling alongside my house.

I wonder if you could keep one like a hamster and make a pet of it. looks like you could. let us know if you see him again after you let him go

You have such a good heart when it comes to all critters... Are there any you don't like? I don't like spiders .... BUT to tell you the truth, there are a lot of critters which I would prefer to stay out of my yard (deer, squirrels, chipmunks, ground hogs, etc.)....They can do HUGE damage if we let them... So---I don't have a good heart when it comes to some of the critters in our area. Thank Goodness we don't have moles or voles.... I don't need my yard dug up... ha

Hugs,
Betsy

Thank you, Betsy. The only critters I'm not crazy about seeing is snakes and spiders. In Orlando we had a black racer that lived in our yard and I was grateful because it kept poisonous snakes away. I was bit by a brown recluse over 20 yrs ago and so it's left me fearing spiders.
I've never felt that I have the right to take a life no matter what living creature it is, unless of course it's a threat to my life or our pups. I do get pretty aggravated hearing people call animals pests because I feel that humans are pests to animals. It seems that we just look for a quick fix which usually ends up hurting the animals.
We try to Live and Let Live. I've raised my son to never turn his back on a creature in need and that includes people, while never putting himself in danger :)

Thanks ---and thanks for telling me about this response. I seldom get back to blogs after commenting on them... Just no time!!!! BUT--I love you for your attitude. We love animals and critters also ---and do NOT ever kill them.. We have relocated some squirrels at times to better for them (and for us) locations....

We spend so much time and effort and MONEY on our flowers and yard --so that makes a huge difference when trying to protect it.... IF I didn't have an interest on all of the flowers and the yard in general, I guess I wouldn't care whether chipmunks and squirrels lived here.... Maybe someday when we get too old for yard work, we'll have an "I don't mind sharing my yard with them" attitude....

Thanks and HUGS,
Betsy
