This is what I found when googling do Crows bury food...
Crows sometimes will bury food in the the yard and cover it with leaves or grass. They also hide food in trees or rain gutters, or another spot. Like squirrels, crows will retrieve the stored food when needed.
I always wonder how good are the squirrels are at finding their buried food now I'm wondering how well of a memory do the crows have when it comes time to find their food.
I was sure that we videoed the Crow burying food. I'll do some searching on my cell phone or backup inventory. I would love to show you all.
I don't mind the Crow and his crew visiting. I just hope it's not too often because they will scare of my visiting song birds and cute squirrel families. :)
I have really enjoyed the Crow stories everyone shared! Crows can be so funny!
Animals are truly Amazing!
The Crow flew off to sit High in a tree and started squawking. He was even bobbing like crazy but no one ever came and he flew away.
He or she really is gorgeous.

I love the profile shot, shows all the details of his facial feathers
The crows have been all over our yards since late Summer 2016. We would occasionally see them flying but but never stopping and congregating in our yard like they do now. No clue what has changed. I hear they are smart and I believe it. They somehow figured out how to undo a suet feeder from a secure hook, knocked it to the ground and gorged on the suet. I took the suet feeder in around Tgiving. Thankfully no more crows on my bird feeders.
Hugs Madi and mom
You must have a good zoom lens on your camera. I can watch the crows outside our house forever but the second I switch the camera on they are off like a shot!
I didn't know they buried food, interesting piece of information.

Squirrels remember approx 40% of their hiding places for the food they hide!
Crows are remarkable. Their capacity for memory is awesome and multi-generational. If a person is good to a crow, treats them well and is friendly, the crow's children, granchildren and great-grandchildren will remember. If one is mean and nasty that is remembered, too!
If they like you, sometimes they'll bring you presents. There is a girl in Seattle who has a lot of little gifts from the crows she feeds.
I dont know how good hei memory is b I've heard that crows are quite intelligent
I have read that they are related to the blue jays who for certain bury food :)
What awesome photos you got! I especially love the one with his beak open cawing! Yes, I would like to know how much buried food they remember. Maybe I will try to Google it.
I just found this on line, and am going back to look for more: A crow is far more methodical about caching food. It too has a favourite general area where it stores food, but instead of simply burying the food item, it will place a leaf, twig, bit of grass or some other item it is likely to remember on top of the food as a marker. If you watch the bird carefully as it is covering the food item, you will see that it tilts its head sideways, so that it can look at the marker on the hiding place with one eye and the surroundings with the other. In effect, it is creating a mental image of where it hid the piece of food so that it has a better chance of finding it at a later time when it wants to eat it.
this is truly fascinating, Ginny! thank you!
Unusual visitor to have around for a few days and a great subject for blog posts :)

Wonderful shots Marie, they are truly fascinating birds.
Thanks a lot for your comment! My e-mail has changed, so I did not get your e-mails. the new one is GinnyHartzler@gmail.com
Fabulous images Marie. You should consider sharing this post [or all] with your crows at I'd Rather B Birdin' this coming weekend!!
Oh, and as for squirrels memory? Let me just say this....we have pecan trees coming up all the time. From forgetful tree rats. But I still love those sweet, cute, adorable creatures.
I'd love to see a crow bury food.
Hi Marie, Thought I would stop in and say hi. It's been fun and interesting to read your posts about the crows! Hope your day is filled with many blessings.
I always liked the body stance of the crows (and they are intelligent creatures)
