We kept seeing this pretty bird visiting our backyard oak tree. We took a few pics of her, which wasn't easy. She was really high up in the tree and just cruising around it. We thought she was a Red-Headed Woodpecker, but we did a little research and found out otherwise. We believe she's a Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker which is a different type of woodpecker. She has made quite a pattern from all her pecking. She's a busy little girl. THH!
This pic was taken yesterday and all others were taken today. |

Wonderful pictures, and yes, I am almost certain she is a sapsucker. We had one for years. And once they start on a tree, they don't stop. She will drill rows and rows of holes, hundreds. And this is not good for the tree. Our huge old maple finally had to be cut down, but we don't know if it was the bird or not. Each tree place came out and gave us a different answer.
P.S. As much of a bird lover and birdwatcher as I am, if you love the tree, you may want to discourage the bird. I may be all wrong, but it should be easy to look up.
She is a pretty girl with that red head. As well as she blends in with the trees it's lucky you saw her. Glad you could id this one I would guessed a Flicker. We don't see a lot of woodpeckers in our yard.
she is getting all those little bugs out of the tree, so sweet and cute.
Woof! Woof! Pretty ... all of my birdie friends are temporary away. I do miss their Tweet Tweet. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

Oh she does blend in well doesn't she? What wonderful pictures you captured of her.
I think your right on the money with your identification there. I agree..A Yellow Belly for sure.
Have a fantastically blessed day sweetie!!! :o)
What a lovely little visitor you have. She sure does blend in well. I've never seen a sapsucker before, other than in pictures that is
You know your birds - I think that was right on! Sandie
Hi and thanks you for stopping by my blog....great pictures and it seems you have good luck with wild life...I say that because we don't....we just moved to a brick home but our last house was cedar and not only did we have the woodpeckers pecking at the siding all hours of the day but we couldn't keep the squirrels out of the attic....they moved in and didn't want to leave....Not a good thing....Sue.
I miss all of my lovely summer birds!
Excellent shots!

I always wondered why they named the bird that! I love to watch the birds too, and I've seen a Yellow Belly here from time to time. Great shots, Marie! Have a good day!
