Eastern Blue Birds

This is my grandmother's favorite bird, they really are beautiful.  She and I share the same passion for animals.
The birds sure do enjoy the holly berries in our backyard and I enjoy watching the entire bush shake when all of a sudden it's as if they just found this buffet.  lol  Some days there's only a couple of Wrens out back and other days it's a like a festival of birds, which we very much enjoy.
The very first bird I helped rescue was a baby Mocking bird.  I was about seven and dad and I raised him or her until it was ready to be on it's own and flew away.  Do you have a favorite bird? It's a challenge for me to choose only one but, Cardinals have always caught my eye. :)

Our Little Girl, Heidi!

Little Heidi was rescued by my uncle.  Her owner was moving out of state and her plans were to take Heidi and her cat to a shelter.  My uncle heard about this at his work and immediately jumped in to rescue the two.  My uncle's little alpha dachshund wasn't always nice to Heidi, so she's ours now. :) I call her my grandma's dog because when grandma is here you can always find Heidi in grandma's lap. :)
She may only be 4.5 lbs, but she has a BIG bark!    Maybe it's a little yappy, but it's loud! lol
She has a favorite stuffed animal, Ducky, that she keeps in her bed.  If any of the other pups even act like they're about to sniff around Ducky, watch out!  Heidi will come charging and snapping!  As if she has forgotten that she's smaller than Rambo's head!  Gotta love her spunk!
Heidi sends everyone little kisses and hugs!

Making A Difference

As I was doing some online research I came across this website, https://www.booster.com/  On this website you can raise money and awareness for your cause by designing t-shirts.  I love this idea!  I'm one of those people that can't turn my back to what is going on in this world regarding animals.  I have so much respect for people that run animal rescues and shelters.  If I saw the abuse that these people see so often I wouldn't be able to sleep or eat.  So, I do what I can to make a difference.  I'm better at donating items, money and getting the word out regarding wonderful organizations.  Now, don't get me wrong because if I'm faced with an injured or lost animal I don't ignore it.  I've done a lot of wildlife rescue and have helped return several dogs to their owners.  If I can't physically help, then I will call someone who can.  In Orlando I saw dogs left in cars with no windows cracked and I called 911.  I saw large watch dogs abandoned at old commercial businesses left with no water or food and I called for help.  In Orlando you could call 311 for SPCA and they would take your info regarding the situation and then send out an investigator.  My son is just like me and he has shared his passion for animals with his friends.  I'll never forget the day that one of his friend's called me, she saw Beagle Puppies crammed into a tiny cage in a back yard and there was no water.  She called SPCA to report what she saw.  She felt so good about herself and she should because she made a difference. :)  Kind hearts are contagious!  My eyes and heart always seem to be drawn to animals and the elderly.

I chose this story to share with you.  Please take the time to read this girl's story, she's a survivor.

They could chain her, starve her. They could breed her, fight her. They could beat her, neglect her. They could not break her. Tillie - #367 Survivor More about this campaign

About Tillie

Please join Handsome Dan's Rescue in celebrating Tillie's one year anniversary of living in a home as part of a family.

Tillie now wears a pink collar and a necklace of big faux pearls. Her legs are bowed and she has trouble walking because her legs broke under the weight of a heavy collar and chain that choked her for years to the buried car axle.  She has a broken sternum, a broken tail, and is battling heart worms. But her spirit could not be broken. In August 2013, law enforcement and dog advocacy agents rescued Tillie and 366 other dogs in the second largest dog-fighting raid in U.S. history which spanned across Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Texas. Federal and local agents also seized firearms and drugs and $500,000 in cash from dogfighting gambling that took place over the course of a three-year investigation. And now Tillie is living her new, chain-free life in Rhode Island. Please help support Tillie, her fellow #367 survivors, and Handsome Dan's Rescue.

Favorite Found Treasures

I shop thrift stores regularly, as most of you know.  I buy things for myself and to sell on ebay.  I would like to build my ebay to a thrift & gift store and make donations to animal shelters.
Today I would like to share with you a couple of my favorite treasures.
The black puppy dog lives in my china cabinet.  I paid .25 only for him!  Yes, I decided it's a male. :)  And the pitcher and cup I found separately at the same store.  They cost me $6.00 together!   These are two of my favorite finds.
I find a lot of items with price tags still attached!  Love it!
Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend!

So handsome and low maintenance. :)

Wish you could feel the texture of the roses.

There's not one chip!  Excellent condition!

Our Sunday Rescue

Our pup, Rocket, found a squeaky toy in the backyard on Sunday.  I was in the kitchen and I'm very familiar with that sound.  I knew it was a baby squirrel calling for its mama.  I ran outside and there he was under our Gardenia bush.  Rocket didn't even harm one hair on the little guy!  I scooped him up and checked him over.  He looked in good shape except maybe starting to get dehydrated.  I got him wrapped in a t-shirt and place him in a shoe box and placed a heating pad under the box.
A mama will not take back a cold baby because she thinks he may be sick and doesn't want to make her other babies sick.  Also, you don't want to feed a cold baby.  I had high hopes of the mama coming back for him, but it never happened.  There's a good chance that something happened to the mama and this little guy was hungry and started crawling around in the nest looking for food and fell out of the nest.  He's about three to four weeks old and has a great set of lungs on him!

I took him to a very nice lady that works with the wildlife rescue group that I've been dealing with for over twenty years.  I would love to have raised him, but here lately I don't have the time to give him. He will need around the clock feedings, etc..  I will be going back to visit him and I'll be sure to carry my handy camera.  :)
Remember to help all creatures big or small.  Good deeds aren't always convenient. :)

his eyes haven't opened yet.

totally helpless

here's where the little guy was found.

I took these pics with my right hand while holding the little guy,
so, please over look bad lighting, etc..

he's in nursing position, he'll be getting fed soon.

Roxanne, Rambo & Rocket

My fur babies are always hearing me talk about fur babies from other blogs.  They made it loud and clear that they wanted to be in the spotlight too. :)  So here are my fur babies...ta daaaaaaa!
Roxanne Love will be seven in March

Roxy came from a farm.  She had nine siblings!

Rambo will be four in May

He's a rescue doggy. :)

This is Rocket, don't let this face fool you...he DID do it!  Tee Hee!

I found Rocket at the animal shelter.  His days were up and had even
been extended.  I filled out the paperwork, paid a small fee
and picked him up a few days later.

This is Rocket after a long, hard day of harassing and pestering
his two older siblings.  It's a tough job, but someones
got to do it.  :)

Another Puppy Dog In Need Of A Furever Home

There are so many wonderful animals just waiting for their furever families!
Mayzie is trying to bring awareness to all the animals in need of homes.  If we can all chip in and post an adoptable animal here on our blogs maybe some lucky doggies and kitties will find homes.  And if you can't adopt a pet at this moment maybe consider a small donation...every bit really does make a difference!  Everyone has a local shelter.  Call them and find out what donations they accept other than cash donations, you may be suprised of just how easy it is to help.  :)

Chihuahua Mix: An adoptable dog in Orlando, FL

Small • Baby • Female
I am a female Chihuahua mix. I am about 6 months old. I am spayed, current on shots, micro-chipped and on flea/heartworm prevention. My adoption is $250. Since I am just a puppy, it is a requirement that I attend training classes at the Petsmart in Altamonte Springs. Classes are one hour, once a week for six weeks. The cost is only $89 for all six sessions!
Please email for an adoption application. We do not adopt out of state. Due to many bounced checks, we now require that adoption donations be cash only. However, if you make a general donation to the organization (not associated with the adoption of a pet) we do accept checks and paypal. If you are unable to adopt right now, won't you please make a donation to help care for the pets? THANK YOU!!
